Flagstaff Arizona 2017

It was during the first years after I moved away from my childhood home in California. I trailed behind friends who went off to college, choosing instead to put myself through a personal schooling of practice and discipline. This Arizona chapter of my life deepened my connection to the earth. Monsoons, wild meadow blooms, ancient volcanoes, deep snow, and skies filled with stars.

Although I was mostly practicing the skill of light and composition and all the structural aspects of a painting making landscapes and city still life's.

It was also during this time that i began developing the intertwined figures in my work. They became a way of manifesting freedom of placing myself in harmony with the many environments of the world. I've always felt somewhat displaced, having grown up in a segregated city that never quite made room for all of who I am. It was the first time I had to shed all the pain I went through and not bring it into my new life I was creating in Flagstaff Arizona. Thank you Jackson Carranco for the discovery of this place.
